This International Women’s Day be part of something BIGGER…

Let’s come together and help empower women living in underprivileged conditions in Cambodia.

Here at Kiah, we witness women doing amazing things each and every day and think this is worth celebrating! This International Women’s Day (8th March) we hope to celebrate not only the wonderful women of our local community, but to step abroad. We have chosen to support our nutritionist, Fiona, who will be taking part in a project in Cambodia this June.

The trip involves a group of Brisbane ladies, partnering with non-for-profit organisation, RAW Impact (Raising Awareness Worldwide to make a positive Impact). Disparities in health and education between Australia and Cambodia can be quite confronting. The trip allows volunteers to play a role in supporting social justice, whilst learning about Cambodia’s rich culture. Over two weeks, the team delivers education to local women on Gunty’s Island and Ko Ki Village. Topics covered will include hygiene, healthy eating, food safety and first aid – topics which we take for granted as common knowledge in Australia, though are simply not taught in Cambodia.

“RAW Impact is all about giving a voice to those who have none and creating powerful change in Cambodian villages,” -Troy, RAW Impact Founder.

During the education sessions, the local ladies will be provided lunch, a chance to be creative and the opportunity to learn skills that can be passed on through generations. Though most importantly, time for themselves. The days are designed to be fun, practical and educational. It is by raising funds that these Brisbane locals can work alongside RAW Impact to make a difference. Which is where the exciting news of Kiah’s next event comes in!

“I hope to use both my nutrition and public health skills, through immersing myself in the culture of Cambodia and doing my bit to tackle the health issues, by working with the locals,”- Fiona, Kiah Nutritionist.

We have partnered with acclaimed chef and restaurant owner Wayne Bryans, of Kitchen Confidence, to bring to you an exclusive one-night-only five course Cambodian cooking night on Thursday the 8th of March. Join us in learning about Cambodian food and culture, kitchen skills and indulge in delicious Cambodian cuisine. Tickets are limited and are selling fast, so get in quick! Hear from RAW Impact and past volunteers, see photos of previous projects and try your luck with raffles and hampers on the night. Proceeds will go directly to RAW Impact. For tickets, visit us instore, follow us on social media or simply head to http://kitchenconfidence.com.au/booking-form/?booking=MzY5 , to book.

All funds raised will be distributed throughout the duration of Fiona’s trip, June 23rd to July 6th. Stay tuned on our social media to see photos, videos and blogs to see how your contribution has made a difference in improving the lives of these beautiful women.

It would be a pleasure to have you join us in our mission to educate and empower this generation of women. Let’s make a real difference.
